As if all the things on our Awards, Badges and Progression page weren’t enough, there’s yet another challenge available to you at Norton: gaining a club record! The spreadsheets below show the current club records for every round, age, bowstyle and category, and since there are over 7000 possible records we’ve broken them down into three spreadsheets: Indoor rounds, Outdoor Metric rounds and Outdoor Imperial rounds*.
*If you’re looking for Frostbite rounds, those live in the Outdoor Imperial spreadsheet; they have six sighters rather than practice arrows so they told us they felt more at home there.
How to read the spreadsheets
The first tab in each spreadsheet shows the current record for each round by category, bowstyle and age. Within each round and category, the top score regardless of age is shown in bold – juniors, we love to see you beating the senior scores! And any records that are the maximum possible score for the round are highlighted in green, both to mark this impressive achievement and to show that those records cannot be broken.
The second tab in each spreadsheet shows the past records as well as the current ones. It’s a similar sort of thing, just with the old records shown underneath the new ones so you can see the history of scores creeping up and up, marking members’ achievements over the years and giving the lifetime members of the club a big dollop of nostalgia. In this tab, the current record is shown in bold and the past records are in italics.
Please note, all club records are processed according to the archer’s age category at the time of the event, not the age category they entered in that event. This was decided through discussion with our competition archers as it allows senior archers to hold a record without it getting mashed by someone in the 50+ age category, as frequently happens. The mashing will be apparent via the bold ‘best score regardless of age’ formatting anyhow, so we figured it’s fine to let senior archers have their bit of recognition.
How to claim a record
The results from any competitions held by the club (e.g. the Club Indoor Championships, the Norton Open, etc.) will be checked against the club records without you needing to do anything – all part of the service for our lovely members!
If you’re shooting a competition at another club, county, country, etc., all you’ll need to do to make a claim is:
- Using the above spreadsheets, check all of the relevant club records you might have broken – don’t forget that for metric rounds you may be able to make multiple claims (e.g. for a WA 1440, there’s the score for the full round, each of the four distance scores, and then the relevant Long Metric and Short Metric, too!) If you’re not sure about any of this, please just ask and we can talk you through it as we know it can be complex and we don’t want anyone missing out on a hard-earned record!
- Let us know which record(s) you’re claiming, and send us a copy of the results list to support your claim.
- That’s it!
What’s a club target day?
Good question, fellow archer! You’ll see on the spreadsheets that some of our records were shot at club target days, which are where we run a recognised round within a club session to allow people to shoot for classifications, etc. (though there’s always space for other shooting, too, if that’s not your thing). And because club target days are run in a competition-like manner, with archers checking each other’s scores and things like that, they count for club record claims!
If you have your eye on a particular record and would like the chance to shoot for it, please just let one of the committee know and we’ll arrange a club target day for that round. Just remember on the day that no matter how keen you are, you can’t shoot more than the permitted number of sighters otherwise your record claim won’t count, so please don’t start your round until the other archers and scoresheets are ready to go!
