Agincourt Anniversary Shoot, July 2015
1415 2015: 600th Anniversary of the Battle of Agincourt

Norton Archers was the proud host of a 'muster' of longbow archers on Saturday 11th July and of archers of all bowstyles on Sunday 12th July 2015, competing in an archery competition with a difference!

In April 1415 the 'Great Council' gave Henry V the sanction to go to war. Lords and Retainers all over the country were ordered to gather an army which consisted of over 5000 archers. That army sailed to France in August 1415 and the longbow archers in that army made history on St Crispin's day at the Battle of Agincourt. Our shoot was to commemorate the 600th anniversary of the many 'muster' of men and call to arms that occurred throughout the country between April and August 1415. On the Saturday we shot a National round, followed by a series of medieval targets that were favoured throughout Europe and other battlefield challenges dating back to antiquity. These included such wonders as the Flanders 'Popinjay', the Garland, the Wand, shooting the mark (different distances), the Balestro Del Girfalco, the Flemish Blazon and challenges from the battlefield with the Loop & Siege, the moving target, the dice shoot, the spinner and speed shooting. Then, on Sunday, we shot a clout, with men's, women's and junior distances available. Many, many thanks to our Tournament Organiser, Phil Chaffer, for all of his work on the event, and to the team of volunteers that helped to make it happen!

The results from the National/Junior National and medieval rounds are available here!

Tyne-Tees Shoot, September 2012

On Sunday 23rd September 2012, East Durham Archers ran the Tyne-Tees Shoot at Norton (Teesside) Sports Complex, with a team of volunteers from Norton Archers acting as the field party. It was an Albion round and we were very lucky with the weather (sunny for most of the day, followed by flooding the next day!). It was lovely to see lots of juniors taking part in age-appropriate rounds, too. Many thanks to East Durham for a well-organised shoot, and well done to Teesside on their overall win!

Grand Northern Archery Meeting, July 2012

On Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd July 2012, we hosted the Grand Northern Archery Meeting (GNAM) and Northern Counties Archery Society (NCAS) Regional Senior Championships, which was a UK Record Status and Rose Award Status Double York/Hereford round. We were fortunate enough to get a very sunny day on the Saturday but sadly the shoot had to be abandoned halfway through the second distance on the Sunday due to an increasing headwind. Many thanks to our brilliant judges Charlie Hall, Sharon Robinson and Steve Richardson, our lovely Lady Paramount Helen George (NCAS President), all of the archers who attended the shoot and our club members and their families for making the event run as smoothly as it did.

Results are available in PDF format here.
